Here is the latest email from F.A.N.S.:

The last two games have been huge disappointments for Jackets fans.  Our team is officially the worst in the NHL for 2011-12.  Yet, to this point, there are no signs that the changes this team so desperately needs are coming.

That's why we need your help to get over the 1,000 signature mark this week.  With games Wednesday and Friday, we need as many volunteers as possible to get signtaures on the petition to remove Mike Priest and Scott Howson as President and GM of the Columbus Blue Jackets before and after the games.

We're also enlisting all of you and anyone else you may know who is a Jackets fan.  Attached you will find the petition form that we are using.  Have any Jackets fans you know who might be interested sign the petition in your spare time.  Then simply mail it to the following address:

Matt Garrett
5621 Wigmore Drive
Columbus, Ohio 43235

We'll take care of the rest.

Finally, since the supply of neon green poster board we had was limited, we've made a very simple sign to show your support for the removal of Mr. Priest and Mr. Howson, which we've also attached.  Bring a few to upcoming games.  All you have to do is print it out on a color printer.  Please always remember that while being visible is important, it is also important to be respectful of your fellow fans.

If 20 Miami Dolphins fans can get their owner's attention, certainly over 1,000 Jackets fans can get the attention of their's!

For A New Start (F.A.N.S.)

I couldn't attach the petition doc but if you want a copy of that and/or the sign, you can email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and/or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and we'll hook ya up!

As mentioned in the email, F.A.N.S. is also looking for volunteers for the remaining home games.  A reminder that all volunteers get a free F.A.N.S. t-shirt.  Again, just hit up This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it if you are interested!

Finally, if you really get creative -- just make your own shirt like Deanna did here:

FANS_-_For_A_New_Start_Logo

We know you're like us and you aren't simply Blue Jackets fans, you're also F.A.N.S. - For A New Start.  That's why we have created a new group for fans like you, For A New Start.  You can check it out at www.JacketsFANS.com.

This isn't a fan club or backers group.  Those already exist.  This is a fan advocacy group for those who want the voice of the fans to be heard on no uncertain terms and for the message to be delivered to ownership and management of the team that the status quo is not acceptable, that excellence is not optional.

Our short term goal is clear--effect a change of management.  But our mission goes beyond that.  Our mission statement is:

To restore and maintain the franchise's honor.  To do so, we demand:

1.  Accountability from ownership, management, players and all other parties associated with the Columbus Blue Jackets hockey franchise.

2.  Excellence in all levels of the team's operations on-ice and off as sports fans and citizens of Central Ohio accept nothing less.

3.  A commitment to honor the community and fans of Central Ohio from all of those involved in the Columbus Blue Jackets hockey franchise.

We have a lot of things planned between now and the end of the season to help achieve our goals and abide by our mission.  Some of you may have already seen the t-shirts done by Traxler Tees (special thanks to Zoo16 from HFBoards for working on these).  For those of you who haven't, check them out here.  Wear them with pride knowing that your not only making a visible statement about the team's direction (which is why we went with "Stinger Green"--no way management doesn't take notice of these things) you're also supporting a local business who has done us a huge favor by selling these at the meager price of $12.

To keep apprised of all the new developments, go to www.JacketsFANS.com and like us on Facebook.  Spread the word on Facebook and Twitter.  If Gary Bettman thought 300 people was a "pep rally" wait until he sees what we do next!

Rember the words attributed to Ghandi:

"First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win."

They cannot ignore us any more.  On to victory (on and off the ice)!

***************************************

For those wondering what the next step is after the CBJ Fan Protest there you have it.

Here are some more details:

  • For now the F.A.N.S. Facebook page will be the primary location for all communication, promotion, discussion, events and suggestions/feedback for this group. We would like to encourage everyone who believes in this mission to "like" the group and participate.  You can reach this page by this link, by searching on F.A.N.S. on Facebook or by simply typing JacketsFANS.com into your browser of choice.
  • There is also a Twitter handle called @JacketsFANS (give it a follow) and email address ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) which will be used for various F.A.N.S. communications.
  • T-shirts are now available.  There is no profit for anyone as these are sold at cost.  Follow this link to get a look and to purchase!

Remember that this group is not a megaphone, it's a telephone.  It's an open party line for we, the F.A.N.S. of the Columbus Blue Jackets, to share our voices.  It's for F.A.N.S. who are sick and tired of years of mis-management and demand accountability now and into the future for our beloved franchise.

The CBJ Fan Protest was just a first step.  F.A.N.S. is another.  We will continue to organize and take additional steps that align with our mission as necessary -- which is to restore and maintain this franchise's honor.

Again, you can "like" F.A.N.S. here and stay tuned for much more!
