I wanted to take a moment to introduce you to a new topic I'll be covering from time to time on this blog. The topic will be youth hockey in Columbus.
Similar to Pic Of The Day, Stat Of The Day, This And That, Buy/Sell/Panic, etc -- Youth Hockey 101 will be a regular series of short posts blogging about youth hockey in Columbus and the surrounding areas.
I'm fully aware that most folks who visit this blog want Columbus Blue Jackets all day every day, which of course we will certainly be continuing, but there is a whole lot going on in youth hockey in this area and quite frankly -- no one knows about it!
I'm also learning as I go... and so far there is a lot of good going on out there but also a lot of bad.. but we'll get into that over time.
For the inaugural youth hockey post I wanted to start with the basics -- the Columbus youth hockey ladder.
Below you'll find a birds eye view in regards to the different levels of youth hockey in the Columbus Ohio area.

High school varsity hockey is equivalent to the "Midget" level.
There are also all kinds of programs to get your kids ages 4 and under involved in the game such as the learn to skate program at the Chillers and the Columbus Ice Hockey Club.
Lots more to get into such as the different travel teams, how to get started, costs, the trickle down effect of the Columbus Blue Jackets icing a loser year in and year out and much more but for now I'll let you soak this one in.
Also keep an eye out for an article in the Columbus Dispatch about youth hockey over the next two weeks.
